The Best Spots for Spring Photo Ops in Costa Mesa, California

The Best Spots for Spring Photo Ops in Costa Mesa, California

Costa Mesa, CA, is a modern and vibrant place. Though it’s home to the renowned Segerstrom Center for the Arts and a wide variety of public art installations, Costa Mesa isn’t only for lovers of the arts—its gorgeous coastal views, thriving dining scene, and trendy boutiques make it the perfect place for anyone to explore.

Sightseeing in Costa Mesa is a great way to spend your spring and summer, but what’s an adventure without some photos to document the fun? If you’re looking for the best places for a spring photo shoot in the Costa Mesa area, look no further—we’ve got you covered. Here are five of the best places to smile for the camera and create lasting memories.

1. Noguchi Garden

Featuring a variety of interesting pieces meant to symbolize California’s landscape, Noguchi Garden is one of the country’s preeminent sculpture gardens and photoshoot hotspots. Created by Isamu Noguchi in 1982, this sculpture garden—known as “California Scenario”—is the perfect place for a unique photo shoot. Stand next to a large redwood or mirrored mountain to incorporate the incredible features of California into your picture!

Noguchi Garden is open and free to the public, making it a wonderful option for a fun photo op. Whether you’re into nature-inspired or modern-looking backdrops for your photos, this place has it all.

2. Costa Mesa Bloom

Costa Mesa Bloom is a vibrant and iconic mural located on Harbor Boulevard at 19th Street. Featuring the different plants and trees of Costa Mesa, this beautiful piece is not only a great place to take photos but also presents an opportunity to appreciate the local flora of the area. With its colorful, detailed flowers and abstract shapes, this is the best place in the area to snap a winning Instagram photo.

While it may just look like a pretty wall, the mural was actually designed to be a great photo op. Sit on the step, and it looks like you’re seated right inside a California poppy! If you do end up posting your photo on social media, make sure to use the hashtag #costamesabloom to show off your pose and get inspiration from others who have had their photo taken at this scenic spot.

3. Newport Beach

Located just a few miles west of Costa Mesa is the popular Newport Beach . A popular tourist attraction, Newport Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of beach on the California coastline, making it a great place for some spring photography. Whether you’re interested in individual glamor shots, family portraits, or fun group photos, Newport Beach is the place for you.

Although the weather is great practically year-round, springtime is an especially pretty time of year to visit the beach. Come in the evening and you just might catch a beautiful orange sunset in your shots. Or, visit in the early morning for soft light and calm waves. No matter if you’re on the pier or in the sand, a spring photoshoot at Newport Beach is sure not to disappoint!

4. Fairview Park

Costa Mesa’s largest park, Fairview Park , hosts 195 acres of open space for your enjoyment and photographic creativity. Featuring both natural and manicured areas, this park is at its most beautiful in the spring. The area is also home to many rare and endangered animal species, so if you’re lucky, you may even get an animal friend in your pictures! Hop on a bike, pack a picnic, or fly a kite for some entertaining photo props.

The park is open to the public every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with special events happening throughout the year. With natural light, wide open spaces, and gorgeous scenery, Fairview Park is the perfect choice for nature-loving photographers and models.

5. Orange County Museum of Art

The Orange County Museum of Art is another great option for a creative, contemporary photoshoot. The new museum opened in October of 2022 and houses modern works created by artists with ties to California. While the museum features many intriguing pieces that would be perfect photography subjects, you might even find your perfect photo op outside. The museum’s architectural design is a work of art in and of itself, so don’t be afraid to snap your photos away from the curated collection.

You can plan your museum photoshoot for any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Thursday, Friday, or Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free, and no reservations are needed. Just be aware that OCMA prohibits tripods, panoramas, and selfie sticks, as well as flash photography where noted. Enjoy snapping some springtime shots in style at the OCMA!
